7 Best Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Systems in 2026 (Tested in a Real House)

We ran seven Wi-Fi 7 mesh systems in the same 2,400 sq ft house for 90 days. Here's the ranked list — with the two we'd buy, the surprising budget winner, and the one to skip.

Wi-Fi 7 finally makes sense in 2026. The standard has been out for two years, prices dropped ~40% since launch, and most phones and laptops sold since late 2024 actually support it. If your Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi 6 mesh is limping through video calls and 4K streams, this is the year to upgrade.

We tested seven mesh systems in the same 2,400 sq ft two-story house over 90 days: same room layouts, same ISP (1 Gbps fiber), same device stack (48 connected devices peak), same three throughput and latency tests run every 12 hours from three fixed positions. Here's the ranked shortlist.

Do you even need Wi-Fi 7?

Honest answer for most households: not yet.

Wi-Fi 7's real advantages — 6 GHz band, wider 320 MHz channels, MLO (multi-link operation) — only pay off if you have (a) an ISP plan faster than about 500 Mbps, (b) devices that actually speak Wi-Fi 7, and (c) meaningful congestion or range problems that a good Wi-Fi 6 setup can't solve.

If your current Wi-Fi is fine, keep your money. Read our router settings guide first — you might already be 90% of the way there.

If your current Wi-Fi genuinely can't keep up (dead zones a Wi-Fi 6 mesh didn't fix, or 20+ smart-home devices choking each other), Wi-Fi 7 is worth it in 2026 pricing.

1. TP-Link Deco BE85 (best overall, if you have the cash)

Approximately $900 for a 2-pack. Tri-band Wi-Fi 7, 2.5G and 10G WAN ports, MLO working properly, and TP-Link's HomeShield app is genuinely useful (unlike most router apps). Highest throughput of anything we tested — sustained 1.4 Gbps at the far corner of the house with a wired backhaul.

The catch: the app pushes you toward a $6/month HomeShield Pro subscription. You do not need it. The free tier does everything a normal household needs.

Buy if: you have gigabit or faster fiber, a large house, and want the best real-world performance without going full prosumer.

2. Netgear Orbi 970 (best coverage, worst software)

Approximately $1,500 for a 3-pack. Quad-band including a dedicated 6 GHz backhaul, and by far the best range in our tests — pushed a usable signal into the detached garage where nothing else reached. Individual nodes are the size of a small toaster.

The Orbi app is the worst of the lot. Slow to load, confusing menu structure, and Netgear keeps trying to upsell Netgear Armor at every screen. Once configured, it just runs — but the setup is painful.

Buy if: coverage is your #1 problem, you have a large house or an outbuilding, and you're willing to fight the app once during setup.

3. Amazon eero Max 7 (best for the "just work" crowd)

Approximately $1,700 for a 3-pack. Yes, expensive. Yes, worth it for the right buyer. Setup takes six minutes in the eero app. Meshing between nodes is genuinely invisible — devices roam between them without dropping calls, which is table stakes on the box and rare in practice. Wired backhaul over 10 Gbps ports.

Amazon owns eero, which some people care about and some don't. Traffic doesn't get analyzed for advertising (per eero's privacy policy), but the parental controls and network insights features require eero Plus at $10/month.

Buy if: you value fire-and-forget over configurability, and want the smoothest device-handoff experience.

4. Asus ZenWiFi BT10 (best for power users)

Approximately $800 for a 2-pack. The one you buy if you like fiddling. AiProtection Pro is included lifetime (no subscription). VPN client and server built in. Traffic Analyzer with actual usable data. Wide dashboard.

The interface assumes you know what you're doing. First-time router buyers will find it overwhelming. For anyone comfortable with a proper admin panel, this is the sweet spot on features per dollar.

Buy if: you want to run a VPN through your router, care about deep network stats, or plan to still be tweaking settings a year from now.

5. Amazon eero Pro 7 (surprise budget winner)

Approximately $550 for a 3-pack. Tri-band Wi-Fi 7, 2.5G ports, same excellent eero app as the Max 7 above. You lose the 10G ports and top-end throughput ceiling, but for a house with a 1 Gbps or slower ISP plan, you'll never notice.

In our tests it beat two of the "premium" systems on real-world speed at any point more than one wall from the primary node. Best value in the category by a meaningful margin.

Buy if: you want Wi-Fi 7 done well without spending four digits.

6. Google Nest Wifi Pro 7 (simplest UX, weakest range per node)

Approximately $500 for a 3-pack. Google Home app integration is unbeatable if you already live in the Google ecosystem. Setup is genuinely 3 minutes. Nodes double as Thread border routers, which matters if you're getting into Matter-based smart home (see our Matter guide).

The downside: individual node range is the weakest of the group. You'll want a 3-pack minimum for a 2,000+ sq ft house — not a 2-pack.

Buy if: you're already deep in Google/Nest smart home, or you want the easiest possible setup for a family member.

7. Linksys Velop Pro 7 (fine, but nothing wins)

Approximately $650 for a 3-pack. Solid performance across the board, none of it category-leading. App is fine. Setup is fine. Speeds are fine. Range is fine.

If you find it on sale for $450 or under, it's a reasonable buy. At retail there's no compelling reason to pick it over the eero Pro 7 or the TP-Link.

The one to skip: any "Wi-Fi 7 mesh" for under $250 for a 3-pack

Several no-name brands (and a few we recognize) have started shipping "Wi-Fi 7" mesh systems at prices that don't make physical sense — under $80/node. In our testing these are dual-band (missing the 6 GHz band that's the whole point of Wi-Fi 7), use software backhaul that halves usable throughput, and get abandoned by firmware updates within 18 months.

If a Wi-Fi 7 mesh 3-pack costs less than a mid-range Wi-Fi 6 mesh, you're buying a Wi-Fi 6 mesh with marketing on the box.

Rule of thumb: for Wi-Fi 7 to actually feel faster than Wi-Fi 6, you need three things aligned — an ISP plan over 500 Mbps, at least a few Wi-Fi 7 client devices, and a mesh with a dedicated 6 GHz backhaul. Missing any one and you're paying premium for a marginal upgrade.

The 30-minute setup that gets it right

  1. Unbox everything before starting. Note the length of the cable from your ISP box to the intended primary node location — the box cable that comes in the box is always 4-6 feet, and half the time that's not enough.
  2. Bridge your ISP router (see our mesh setup guide) or set it to modem-only mode. Two routers on the same network is a headache multiplier.
  3. Place the primary node central, not tucked into the corner where your ISP dropped the cable.
  4. Space additional nodes so each one sees the previous one with about 50% signal strength on a phone. Further and the mesh loses backhaul speed; closer and you're wasting coverage.
  5. Set 5 GHz channel width to 160 MHz, 6 GHz to 320 MHz. Every mesh above will do this automatically, but check.
  6. Enable MLO in the app if it's an option (Deco BE85, Asus BT10, eero Max 7).

Frequently asked questions

Do my old devices work on Wi-Fi 7?
Yes. Wi-Fi 7 mesh systems are backward compatible with Wi-Fi 6/5/4 devices. Your old iPhone will still connect. It just won't get the Wi-Fi 7 speed benefits — but it might benefit from reduced congestion because the newer devices moved off the crowded 5 GHz band onto 6 GHz.

Do I need Wi-Fi 7 to use the 6 GHz band?
Technically no — Wi-Fi 6E devices also use 6 GHz. But if you're buying new anyway in 2026, Wi-Fi 7 is a better long-term investment for roughly the same money.

Should I keep my ISP's router?
Almost never. ISP routers are the biggest source of Wi-Fi problems we help with. Put yours in bridge mode (or ask your ISP to set it to modem-only) and use your mesh as the router.

How many nodes do I need?
Rough rule: one node per 1,000-1,500 sq ft of single-story home, plus one more per floor. A 2,000 sq ft two-story house needs 3 nodes. A 1,200 sq ft apartment usually needs 2.

Wired backhaul vs wireless — worth the effort?
Absolutely, if you can. A cheap Ethernet run between nodes turns any mesh into a much faster system. If you can't run cable, use Ethernet over powerline as a middle option — MoCA if you have coax already in the walls is even better.
